23-day for 20,000KM! "Cherry Express" from Chile to Shanghai to amply supply China's New Year market

The COSCO SHIPPING Volga is the first "Cherry Express" liner to arrive in China this year.

After a 23-day sea voyage, the "Cherry Express" ship successfully docked at Shanghai’s Yangshan Port on Friday.

The ship is carrying over 21,000 metric tons of Chilean cherries, along with blueberries, avocados, and other fresh agricultural products, totaling more than 23, 000 metric tons.

To cope with the seasonal fruit influx, Shanghai Customs has deployed increasingly sophisticated smart supervision technologies.

The “Cherry Express” is loaded with over 820 forty-foot refrigerated containers, including approximately 800 containers of Chilean cherries.

The "Cherry Express" liner service has been in operation for seven years.

Covering a voyage of more than 20,000 kilometers, it consistently completes the journey in 23 days.

Utilizing constant-temperature cold-chain technology, the direct maritime route ensures both high-volume transport and consistent freshness.

According to Shanghai Customs, about 31 dedicated "Cherry Express" ships are expected to arrive at the city's Yangshan Port before the holiday, potentially delivering around 250,000 tonnes of cherries to Shanghai, from where the fruit can be efficiently distributed across China.

This year's Chilean cherry imports are expected to be two to three times higher than last season, highlighting China's growing importance as a market for Chilean cherries.
