$80,000 KING LOUIE OPEN
King Louie West Lanes, Overland Park, Kan., Jan 28-Feb 1, 1975
Roth Crowned In King Louie
Mark Roth, Brooklyn, N.Y., earned his way into the charmed circle of champions with a spectacular 299 game in the nationally televised championship match of the $60,000 King Louie Open.
Victim of the near-perfect game was another youngster, Steve Jones, Kansas City, Mo., who had a large hometown crowd cheering his every move as he mowed down three opponents to get into the championship game against Roth.
Roth's 12th ball which could have earned him a $10,000 cash bonus from ABC-TV and a Mercury automobile, looked good as it left his hand, and as he told newsmen later, "It felt good."
But a stubborn and unyielding four-pin survived the onslaught of nine other pins and Roth had to be satisfied with a 299-233 victory.
