Florence Price (1887-1953) is considered the first African-American female composer to have a large-scale symphonic work performed by a major American orchestra (1933). An organist, pianist, and educator, she most possibly premiered the Suite for Organ during one of her performances at the Grace Episcopal Church in Chicago in 1942.
