See a before during and after progress of converting our basement into a cash flowing AirBnB short term rental. How we house hacked our way into a basement short term rental that pays our mortgage.
We converted a one bath, one bedroom basement into a separate unit with a walk out basement entrance. I separated this unit by installing an exterior door inside that locks on both sides in the stairway that used to connect upstairs and downstairs.
The laundry and utility room already had hookups so I was able to add a small kitchen. I used Home Depot pre-built cabinets and saved thousands, without sacrificing quality. We also added an electric fireplace insert and a solid wood beam mantle.
