• This aromatic plant is grown for its tubers. Like all plants with fleshy roots, this medicinal plant is sensitive to stagnant water, so it’s important to use a well-draining substrate.
• The plants were forgotten, so you’ll need to thoroughly moisten the root ball to make repotting easier and encourage new growth.
How to properly repot ginger:
• Before placing the ginger plants into their new pots, you must fully immerse them because their root balls are somewhat dry. This is a crucial step to revitalize the roots and ensure healthy growth.
Steps:
1. Take a pot (in this case, one without drainage holes).
2. Place a drainage layer at the bottom using a mix of gravel and pumice stone.
3. To prepare the substrate: mix universal potting soil with a bit of organic fertilizer.
4. Fill the pot two-thirds full with the substrate.
5. Remove the ginger plant from its current pot.
6. Check the condition of the roots and whether the cuttings have taken well.
7. Place the ginger plants in the same pot.
8. Fill in with potting mix.
9. Leave a 2–3 cm gap at the top of the pot to make watering easier and prevent overflow.
10. Water thoroughly.
A few practical tips:
You can find ginger at the grocery store or garden center. The leaves, like the roots, can be used in cooking. Keep the temperature between 20–25°C (68–77°F) this winter, and wait for spring to enjoy your thriving ginger plant.
