A review of Spring Valley (Kirin) Silk Ale
Spring Valley Silk Ale (シルクエール＜白＞) is a white ale from Kirin's Spring Valley Brewery, introduced in September 2022 as part of their craft beer lineup. It is an unfiltered wheat ale with a floral and fruity aroma, thanks to the inclusion of Nelson Sauvin hops from New Zealand.
The origins of Spring Valley Brewery trace back to 1870 when Norwegian-American brewer William Copeland established Japan's first commercial brewery in Yokohama's Yamate area. In 1885, his brewery was acquired by Japanese investors and evolved into what is now known as Kirin Brewery. Kirin reintroduced the Spring Valley brand in 2014.

スプリングバレー シルクエール＜白＞は、キリンのスプリングバレーブルワリーが展開するクラフトビールラインの一環として、2022年9月に発売されたホワイトエールです。ニュージーランド産の希少なネルソンソーヴィンホップを使用することで、華やかでフルーティーな香りが特徴の無ろ過小麦エールに仕上がっています。
スプリングバレーブルワリーの起源は1870年にさかのぼります。当時、ノルウェー系アメリカ人の醸造家ウィリアム・コープランドが、横浜の山手に日本初の商業用ビール醸造所を設立しました。1885年には彼の醸造所が日本人の投資家に買収され、現在のキリンビールへと発展しました。キリンは2014年にスプリングバレーブランドを復活させ、その伝統を受け継ぎながら革新的なビール造りを続けています。
