This Aesthetic Mountain Destroyed an Entire Town

This is the story of the famous Mayon Volcano in Albay, Philippines. One of the greatest wonders in the Philippines, Mt. Mayon features a pointed tip and an almost perfect cone shape. However, in February 1814, the Mayon volcano erupted, burying the town of Cagsawa and its surroundings under volcanic debris. Around 2,000 people lost their lives, including those who sought shelter inside the Cagsawa Church. Today, only the ruins of the town and church of Cagsawa remain. The Cagsawa ruins may symbolize the dangers of living near an active volcano. The Mayon is still very much active and poses a continuous threat to people even now. While the Mayon Volcano is a captivating sight, let us also respect the risks it brings to our safety.
