Research at Risk: Life-saving heart pumps for babies

Under development by Cornell researcher James Antaki for over 30 years, PediaFlow is a device that will save the lives of infants with heart defects and would allow newborns to go home with their families while awaiting surgery or a transplant.
 
But shortly after receiving a $6.7 million federal grant to further develop this technology, the project funding was paused. As a result, the development of this lifesaving device hangs in the balance.
