Enshrinement of the Lord Buddha's Relics in the Buddha Homage Reliquary Hall, Ratanawan Monastery, Thailand from
6 - 8 January 2012.
After the final Parinnibana of the Lord Buddha and the cremation of the corporal remains, the ashes and relics were divided into 8 portions. These were distributed amongst the Kings who had faith in the Blessed one, with his relatives the Sakyans receiving a sacred share. A stupa was built to enshrine these relics in the Sakyans Royal city of Kapilavatthu in Northern India.
This stupa with the relics of the Lord Buddha was rediscovered in 1884 by Mr William Peppe during the time of the British colonial period. The British Crown felt these auspicious remains should be given proper respect and veneration by presenting to a Buddhist King. So they were offered to His Royal Highness King Chulalongkorn of Thailand.
On 16th December 2554 ( 2011), a portion of these Kapilvatthu Buddha Relics was offered to the Sangha of Ratanawan Monastery.
Many senior monks participated in this 3-days auspicious ceremony such as Luang Pu Supa, Luang Por Utthai, Luang Por Liem, Luang Por Boonshu, Luang Por Opart, Luang Por Ganha, Luang Por Sumedho, Luang Por Viradhammo, Luang Por Jundee, Luang Por Anek and many more...
