This is a 5-minute video of highlights from the May 13, 1967 Major League Baseball game between the Detroit Tigers and the Red Sox in Boston, won by Detroit, 10-8.
It is from the WHDH-TV in Boston broadcast, with Ken Coleman and Ned Martin on play by play and Mel Parnell on analysis.
The Tigers outdid the Red Sox in this early season slugfest before 9,606 at Fenway Park.
The Sox actually led, 5-4, entering the ninth, when reliever John Wyatt allowed a three-run homer to Bill Freehan and a two-run shot to pinch hitter Earl Wilson (a good-hitting pitcher) as the Tigers batted around for six runs.
They needed every one of them as Boston scored three in the bottom half on a Tony Conigliaro two-run triple and a Rico Petrocelli RBI double and had the tying run at the plate. But Dave Wickersham got Don Demeter to ground out and that was the ballgame.
Jim Northrup had four hits for the Tigers. Although we don't see much of the Red Sox offense, perhaps because those clips made the evening sports report, Mike Ryan had an RBI single, Joe Foy a solo homer, and Dalton Jones an RBI single. We do see Carl Yastrzemski and Jose Tartabull (playing center field) make nice running catches late in the highlights.
