Honour Killing Shocks Dharwad | Pregnant Woman Killed Over Inter-Caste Marriage

A shocking honour killing incident has been reported from Inam Veerapur village in Hubballi taluk of Dharwad district. A young woman, seven months pregnant, was allegedly murdered by her own father following an inter-caste marriage that faced strong family opposition.

The couple, residents of the same village, had been in a relationship since their college days and later entered into a registered marriage despite resistance from the woman’s family. The marriage had earlier led to police intervention and reconciliation meetings involving both families. After living outside the village for several months, the couple returned to their native place in December, hoping tensions had eased.

However, the situation escalated again. According to police sources, the woman’s father, along with relatives, allegedly attacked the couple’s house. The woman sustained severe injuries and was shifted to a private hospital in Hubballi, where treatment was unsuccessful. Other family members were also injured and are undergoing treatment.

Senior police officials visited the hospital following the incident. A case has been registered at the Hubballi Rural Police Station, and the woman’s father along with two others has been arrested.

This incident highlights the continued social challenges surrounding inter-caste marriages and raises serious concerns about honour-based violence in society.
