Singapore's national anthem Majulah Singapura, national flag, and first head of state Yusof Ishak, have stood as symbols of the country's founding ideals - such as equality and multiculturalism - for the past 60 years.
When Singapore became self governing in 1959, it fell to Deputy Prime Minister Toh Chin Chye to design the flag, while a song by composer Zubir Said became the anthem. But what many don't know, is that the original idea for the flag had only 3 stars, and the anthem has seen several tweaks over the decades.
