On the 20th Sunday After Pentecost, the Orthodox Church reads the pericope surrounding the raising of Jairus' daughter. Through his careful exegesis, Fr. Aaron highlights how Jesus singles out the three men who would become the so-called "pillars" of the church: James, Peter, and John. These three, Fr. Aaron explains, would go on to have issues with St. Paul, as relayed in his letter to the Galatians, where they once again misunderstood the gospel to the Gentiles. Using the story of St. Nektarios of Aegina's persecution as a modern example, Fr. Aaron warns that it is sometimes the leaders of the church who betray the gospel and persecute the faithful.
