In Part 5 of my Pioneer SX-1010 restoration series, we’re rebuilding the Control Amp Board (also known as the Tone Amp). This board handles your EQ controls, filter switches, loudness circuit, and the overall signal shape before it reaches the power amp — and after 50 years, it’s usually full of tired caps, noisy transistors, and scratchy controls.
In this video, we:
• Remove and recap the Control Amp board
•
This step makes a massive difference in clarity, channel balance, noise floor, and overall musicality.

⚠️ Safety Reminder:
This video shows how I rebuild the tone/control amp board on this SX-1010. You’ll be working around delicate, tightly packed circuits and live gear when testing. Always unplug the unit before removing boards, follow the service manual, and double-check polarity, pinouts, and wiring when reinstalling.
If you’re not comfortable with electronics repair, please use a qualified tech.
