The Olympian fig is one of the more common figs you will find sold at nurseries, garden centers and online. It is one of the English Brown Turkey fig varieties, which is not to be confused with "California Brown Turkey," "Southern Brown Turkey" or the other "brown turkey figs."
Olympian is a larger fig and is good performer in my wet, humid summers. The fig resists spoiling, mold and pests in heavy rains better than most of my figs. Its flavor stands up to rain well and it seems to be a consistent performer and a reliable fruit tree.
Olympian fig trees get their name from the mother fig tree, which was discovered growing in Olympia, Washington. Due to its origins in the Pacific Northwest, this is a good cold hardy fig tree for people wanting to grow figs in cooler climates. If you are looking for Zone 6 figs or Zone 7 figs that will survive the colder weather, or if you're looking for Pacific Northwest figs for cooler summers, this is a fig you should have on your list. In my climate, the main crop fig is on the earlier side of a mid-season fig, but for shorter fig seasons, this fig variety also has a breba crop that will ripen early if ripening main crop in your climate is unreliable.
At the end of the video, I have an Olympian fig taste test. The fig has a nice peach flavor with moderate sweetness with a noticeable amount of honey in the fruit.
If you have any questions about this fig, how to grow figs, growing figs in ground or growing figs in containers, any of the things I am growing in my garden, are looking for any garden tips and tricks, or have questions about gardening and organic gardening in general, please ask in the Comments below!
