It's time to add some details! This is when the magic begins. This is an incredibly simple yet super cool trick.
I begin by drawing a bunch of random squiggles all over the armor. Then I use an exacto knife to carve the lines into the foam. Finally I apply some heat to the foam. The heat shrank the surface of the foam and made the lines expand.
