Lakhs of students flock from all parts of India to come study in the mecca of UPSC coaching: Karol Bagh, Delhi.
They pay up to Rs 20000 a month to stay in Delhi in cramped up apartments; brokerage not included.
They also pay up to 1.7 lakh to study in the so-called “best coaching classes”. Thousands of students study in illegal libraries built in private basements. These basements don’t have proper ventilation and many have only one entry and exit.
The lanes they walk by are filled with potholes. They flood every monsoon. There are electrical wires all over these narrow lanes which light up at the slightest overload or rainfall.
Three students from UP, Bihar, and Kerala lost their lives by drowning in the basement of a library run by an acclaimed coaching center.
What can be done to make sure that we do not forget this tragedy and the protest by thousands of aspirants at the expense of their precious time?

I went to Karol Bagh to speak to the students.
What I heard from them and what I read shocked me.
