5654W vs. 6K4 Tubes on the Dayton Audio/Juson Amp – Problems

After a few people reached out mentioning distortion issues after swapping tubes, I decided to test the 5654w tubes vs. the stock 6K4 tubes on the Dayton Audio/Juson amp to see what’s going on. The 5654w tubes add more clarity and dynamics, but they also increase gain, which can cause distortion on certain inputs.
For now, I’ve gone back to the stock 6K4 tubes while keeping the EL34s, which are a huge upgrade over the stock 6N7P tubes. I’m also looking into whether bias tuning could help optimize the amp for higher-gain tubes.
