You know those picture-perfect holiday scenes we’re shown?
Perfect tables. Perfect memories. Perfect families.
This… is not that.
In this episode, I talk about the real holidays we make together — the messy, loud, imperfect ones. The kind where the hosting changes hands, the room is different, a few familiar faces are missing, a few new ones are at the table… and somehow, the feeling still shows up anyway.
This year, our daughter hosted. Some family couldn’t make the trip, a couple of nomadic friends joined in, and the night was full of dropped spoons, near-disasters, and the kind of chaos that turns into “remember that time…?” stories.
Because connection doesn’t come from getting everything right.
It comes from being human together — burned rolls, wobbly turkeys, awkward pauses and all.
If your holidays feel comforting and complicated, familiar and different, you’re not the only one. My hope is that this story leaves you feeling a little more seen, a little less alone, and reminds you that imperfect moments are still worth remembering.
Thanks for being here.
— Joe (and Skeeter, who is still working on his holiday greeting timing)
