REVIEW WITH PRACTICE CHAINS
When I studied with Dr. Suzuki in Japan more than 4 decades ago, almost no day went by without him talking about the importance of reviewing previously learned pieces.
He said again and again: “If you want your students to make fast and good progress, it is important to repeat and refine pieces they have already learned regularly.”
Repetition work should take place in every lesson - both in individual and group lessons.
Here you can see an example of the beginnings of pieces from Volume 2A, played by my dear colleague Margherita Biederbick, Teacher Trainer at the German Suzuki Institute. Here the most important teaching points of each piece are repeated in quick succession.
It also quickly becomes clear how confidently the child has mastered the pieces. The practice chains effectively promote many learning processes in a relatively short time.
