DJJohnny visits Latchford
Part 4 - Cotton, Pins and Tunnels.
This is the fourth in a series of short local history videos, about the Latchford area of Warrington, which is located on the south bank of the River Mersey - within the town of Warrington.
This video looks at some of the early industry around Bridge Foot / Knutsford Road area, including: Peels Cotton Factory and John Edelston’s Pin works. The video also takes a brief glance at St James School and it’s origins. It then looks at the location of a fascinating tunnel, which led towards the old Howley Power Station and which once dominated the Warrington skyline.
Special thanks to Warrington Library & Museum - Culture Warrington, for their continued help and support with information and images used. Thanks to Gordon Gandy, as well as the Latchford History Group for their excellent booklets and information - including some of the images used. I am also very grateful to friends on Facebook - Warrington Memories, for their invaluable information and images and in particular, to Alan Barton for his detailed account of Warrington’s Pin industry. Credit also to those who’s original images have been used, but couldn’t find their source. Thanks also to my wife - Liz for her great camera work. Finally thanks to Ian Rigby, for his continued help support and companionship in the making of these little videos, which is very much appreciated. Thanks to you all!
