Day three, Glen Feshie bothy to Bob Scott Memorial Hut.
Our stay at Glen Feshie bothy was amazing. It’s such a unique bothy and we had the added bonus of having the place to ourselves. After clearing up we left a couple of chocolate bars for the bothy and set off on the trail again. The weather was good as we rode down Glen Feshie. There is a river crossing close to Glenfeshie lodge and Matt was all hung ho and rode straight across and got his nice dry boots full of water!! After seeing this I decided to cross further down and keep myself dry……
The riding down Glen Feshie was lovely and before we knew it we were back on some familiar trails through Inshriach Forest. We had ridden this section a couple of days previously and I enjoyed it the second time too. Next up was Feshie Bridge and then some really nice trails through the forests leading us to Loch Morlich where we stopped for lunch and to shelter from a heavy rain squall.
After riding up Glen More and taking a quick peak at Glen More lodge we were on the approach to the highest point of our entire trip. We rode as far as we could then started pushing. We eventually reached the top and found ourselves on a plateau with a pretty rough trail. This section of the trail was a bit frustrating as it was strewn with boulders which made it hard to get into any kind of rhythm. After a bit of up and down we found ourselves approaching the Fords of Avon.
So, a bit of a whinge alert at this point. This section of the trail is pretty much un ridable, especially with a fully loaded bike. We ended up pushing and carrying our bikes for hours and I have to admit the frustration levels were building, especially for me!! I was not in the best of moods by the time we got to the pass at Lairig and Laoigh. 😂
The riding improved significantly as we headed down Glen Derry. The evening light was beautiful and despite a detour due to a closed bridge we made good progress and arrived at an empty Bob Scott Memorial hut at around 10pm.
I think we were both ready for a break from riding as it had been a tough and frustrating day. The hut was warm and cosy and after some food and whiskey we settled in for the night. Another very welcome bothy!!!
