Gigantamax Toxtricity has returned to Pokemon GO as one of the Gigantamax Battle Bosses in Pokémon GO Fest 2025: Max Finale.
Gigantamax Toxtricity has a low base defense, only at 140, which is similar to Gigantamax Butterfree. On top of that, Gigantamax Toxtricity is double weak to Ground-type move, which means it should be an easy boss.
Unfortunately, Niantic had determined to set an extremely high HP value as well as CPM (levels) to Gigantamax Toxtricity Boss Battle, making it the hardest Gigantamax Battle Boss at the time. It seems that Scopely has rectified that, and Gigantamax Toxtricity has the "average GMax Boss stat" of 110000 HP and 0.765 CPM in this weekend.
Gigantamax Toxtricity learns Acid Spray/Discharge/Wild Charge/Power-Up Punch. As a Gigantamax Battle Boss, it will use two of them as LARGE ATTACK and target move respectively.
Unfortunately, with a year passed, Dynamax Gengar and Dynamax Excadrill remains to be the best tank against Fighting-type and Electric-type move. However, with Crowned Shield Zamazenta's debut, we have a new tank for Poison-type move.
On top of having a new tank, Acid Spray has an extremely low base power, at only 20. Needless to say, Acid Spray is Gigantamax Toxtricity's biggest weakness, and also what we are relying in this Duo Battle.
As for target move, Power-Up Punch is most preferable. However, we go for Discharge this time such that our attacker, Dynamax Excadrill, can also server as the tank in this battle.
Using attacker as a tank has a unique advantage that, it can always use all its Max Moves perfectly without waste. Dynamax Excadrill can use some of its Max Moves to regain its HP, then the remaining on Max Quake, without wasting them like non-attacker tanks might do.
With Crowned Shield Zamazenta nearly fully nullifying Acid Spray even after Gigantamax Toxtricity got stronger, the main problem in this battle would be Discharge. After Gigantamax Toxtricity got stronger, its Discharge hits too hard that Dynamax Excadrill can only barely survive. There is not much choice at that point, where Dynamax Excadrill would simply keep enduring hits and wait for Acid Spray. Once Gigantamax Toxtricity start using Acid Spray, it is the time for Dynamax Excadrill to fight back.
Similar to all Max Battles under 2nd phase, survivability is the top priority, and it is important to make sure the team can survive another wave of attacks by using sufficient Max Guard/Max Spirit on Dynamaxing. After the boss had been damaged deep enough to be defeated in 2 cycle, we would then give up the sustainability of the team and go all out attacking.
