DKC1 GBA 101% in

The last 101GBA PB I got while preparing for 306% GBA.
This category is kinda fun and definitely has some of the most interesting and unique completion requirements courtesy of the photo album (including having to collect all the KONG, actually needing to play animal buddy token bonuses, needing to make an entire world map have Donkey and Diddy's icon on it, needing a perfect run of a Candy's Dance minigame, fishing for a stupid crab, and a bunch of uniquely placed collectibles).

Unfortunately the heavy amount of RNG that stems from Funky's Fishing makes this category absolutely suck to grind lol. It's already hard enough executing a run well, but imagine having Funky and Queen B just reject most of your runs for no reason on top of that. It's also very easy to forget a collectible at any point (although that became less of a problem the more I grinded). This category's not short, either!

I did have a lot of fun trying to route this category from near-scratch. Routing the animal buddy token collection is probably one of the most unique challenges I've ever faced in speedrunning-- and yet I wouldn't be surprised if there's still a faster combination that can be achieved, on top of countless other possible movement optimizations. I don't think I did too bad, though; a sub-1:20 would definitely be possible even with exactly my route, it would just be frustrating. As much as this category sucks, I would love to see someone else try it out some day. Just... make sure you're really good at Candy's Dance Show and Funky's Fishing...
