First Blood (1982) is an action drama directed by Ted Kotcheff and based on the novel by David Morrell. The film stars Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo, a former Green Beret and Vietnam War veteran who drifts into a small town in Washington state in search of an old comrade. When he learns that his friend has died, Rambo encounters the local sheriff, Will Teasle, played by Brian Dennehy, whose hostility and harassment push him into a violent confrontation. After being mistreated by the police, Rambo escapes into the wilderness, triggering a massive manhunt that turns into a one-man war of survival.
The film explores themes of alienation, trauma, and the lasting scars of war. Rambo’s violent outburst is not driven by malice but by deep psychological wounds from his experiences in Vietnam and the rejection he faces upon returning home.
