A look at some of the Brittlegill or Russula genus mushrooms that can be found in the eastern United States in the summer. These are mycorrhizal fungi that often live in association with oaks or other hardwood trees. They are known for often being very fragile mushrooms. They will have no ring on the stem and a lot of them have brightly colored caps and white stems and gills. Brittlegills are not highly prized for their edibility but there are a few edible varieties out there.
