This video offers a first look at Canuck Racing Club's new Ontario-bred bay filly by Hard Spun out of Shamaria. We bought her at the 2025 Fasig-Tipton October Yearling Sale in Lexington, Kentucky.
From one of the last crops of three-time leading sire in North America Danzig, Pennsylvania-bred Hard Spun raced 13 times in 2006 and 2007 and earned seven wins and $2,673,471. His wins include the Port Penn Stakes, Pennsylvania Nursery Stakes, Lecomte Stakes, Lane's End Stakes, the Grade 1 King's Bishop Stakes, and the Grade II Kentucky Cup Classic Stakes. Hard Spun also finished second at the 2007 Kentucky Derby, third in the Preakness Stakes, fourth in the Belmont Stakes, second Grade I Haskell Invitational Handicap, and second in the Breeders' Cup Classic.
At the time we acquired this filly, Hard Spun had sired 15 crops, 113 black type winners, and five champions with combined earnings of more than $164.7 million.
Our filly's dam Shamaria was sired by 2015 Queen's Plate winner and Canadian Champion Three-Year-Old Colt, Shaman Ghost who was also runner up in the 2017 Pegasus World Cup, the world's richest horse race. Inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2018, Shaman Ghost was sired by 2004 Eclipse Horse of the Year Ghostzapper who earned just under $3.5 million in 11 starts, including the 2004 Breeders' Cup Classic when he set a track record.
