Xochil Herrera Scheer as a guest speaker for students at Walter H. Dyett High School for the Arts in partnership with After School Matters, Fashion Design and YOU!.
This portion of the talk focuses on Xochil describing details of her job as "The Chicago Pattern Maker".
In the program, students learn the vocational skill of pattern making, cutting and garment construction in tandem with the soft skill of effective communication. Xochil shares her journey as a local professional pattern maker and fashion designer. The program aims to provide vulnerable teens access to careers in the fashion arts industry by showcasing its value and exposing them to non-traditional career paths that will generate new economic funnels within their communities - contributing to their social and economic self-sufficiency and sustainability.
