Meet the Ornate Leaf Slug (Elysia ornata), a tiny sea slug that looks just like a floating leaf, complete with orange and black edges.
It feeds on algae and steals their chloroplasts, allowing it to produce some energy through photosynthesis, almost like a plant! These clever little slugs live on reef flats and algae-covered rocks and are usually spotted during very low tides along Singapore’s shores.
Though not rare, they are easy to miss due to their excellent camouflage. A fascinating example of nature’s ingenuity!
