Kabini Dam & Backwaters - Escape the chaos | Steps Together

Kabini Backwaters one such calm place where you would love to escape on any lazy weekend leaving behind all your daily chaos.

We started from Bangalore and took the below route to reach Kabini
Bengaluru - Kanakapura - Malavalli - Mysuru - Mahadevapura - Heggadahalli - Kabini Dam - Kabini Backwaters
Kabini Dam is 210 Kms from Bangalore and 60 km from Mysuru
This Dam is built over Kabini River (Kapila) and is located near Beechanahalli Village, Heggadadevanakote (H.D.Kote) taluk.

It was built in 1974 and is 58 (190 feet) meters in height and 696 (2,284 feet) meters in length. It caters to the needs of around 22 villages and 14 settlements

The catchment area of Kabini dam is spread over 2141 square kilometers.
Kabini dam submerged 22 villages, 14 colonies, 6950 acres of forest, and 8,870 acres of agricultural land when it was built,

Kabini backwaters can be reached by driving 18 kms via Yalamathur.
The last 6.5 km from SH 33 till Kabini backwaters is an unpaved, dirt road passing through village settlements.
The backwaters of the Kabini reservoir are very rich in wildlife especially in summer when the water level recedes to form rich grassy meadows. During summer, animals in large numbers gather near the lake.
Jungle lodges and other resorts around the area offer boat safari and Jeep safari for tourists.
Since our plan was to reach Wayanad by afternoon, after spending some time in green opens of Kabini backwaters, we proceeded further towards Mananthavady of Kerala
