Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV - 2022 Facelift (ENG) - Test Drive and Review

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross debuted in late 2017. It’s a compact crossover, which slots between the ASX and the Outlander. Initially the Eclipse Cross was available with a 1.5 liter turbo and 2.2 liter diesel, but as part of the facelift those two engines were replaced with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. At least in Europe.

Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle or a PHEV is a car that can be powered by electricity from a home socket, but once it runs out of electrons, an internal combustion engine is there to help out.

In the Eclipse Cross there are two electric motors. The one in the front has 82 hp, and the one in the rear has 95 hp. The system output is 188 hp. Also in the front is a 2.4 liter petrol engine, and under the floor between the axles lives a traction battery with capacity just shy of 14 kWh.
