After the intense four-day Operation Sindoor, where India’s S-400 “Sudarshan” Air Defence System played a crucial role in neutralizing Pakistani aerial incursions, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to give its most powerful air shield a massive firepower boost.

India is finalizing a ₹10,000 crore missile procurement deal with Russia to strengthen its S-400 missile inventory, ensuring multi-layered air defence coverage against both Pakistan and China. With three squadrons already operational and two more on the way, this deal marks the next phase in India’s growing air dominance.

During Operation Sindoor (May 2025), the S-400 system reportedly shot down several Pakistani JF-17 Thunders and a high-altitude spy drone over 300 km away — demonstrating its unmatched range, radar precision, and real-time integration with Rafale fighters and Akash SAM batteries.

Now, the IAF aims to replenish and expand its missile stockpile, adding advanced variants like the 40N6E (400 km) and 48N6 (250 km) long-range interceptors. The deal also includes 30% local production via Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and potential technology transfer for future indigenous missile systems.

As tensions persist across borders, this upgrade solidifies India’s resolve to maintain airspace supremacy and prepare for the future integration of the S-500 Prometey system. The S-400 Sudarshan isn’t just a defence system — it’s India’s invisible shield.
