BACKPACKING ICE LAKE | EAGLE CAP WILDERNESS | WALLOWA MOUNTAINS | JOSEPH, OREGON | HIKING

October 3rd, 2020! Tessa and I tackled the last backpacking trip of the year to Ice Lake in the Eagle Caps of Oregon. We road tripped to the Wallowa Lake trailhead which is just south of Joesph, Oregon the previous night, and car camped to get us by until the next morning. We weren’t in a huge rush, and so we got up, packed up, filled our bellies up, and took off on the trail for Ice Lake. The trail was beautiful, and before we knew it we made it to the lake. It was relatively flat for the majority of the hike to the Ice Lake Junction, and from here the elevation began. We hiked switchback after switchback, and before we knew it we were there.

Our total mileage from the trailhead to the lake was 8.57 miles hiked in 5 hours 5 minutes. We also had a total elevation gain of 3,248 feet in that time.
