Luzern or Lucerne City is the beautiful gateway to the heart of Switzerland and is situated on the beautiful Lake Lucerne.
The city is full of sights and, with its unique location on the lake and nearby excursion mountains such as Rigi, Pilatus or Stanserhorn, is the destination of many travellers in Switzerland.
Lucerne's cityscape is dominated by the medieval Chapel Bridge, which with its gable paintings is considered one of the oldest covered wooden bridges in Europe. Other landmarks of the city are the Musegg wall and towers, the many houses decorated with frescoes, the Weinmark fountain from 1481 and the many churches such as the Hofkirche, Franciscan and Jesuit churches.
Other attractions include the 112-metre-long Bourbaki Panorama, one of the world's few surviving monumental circular paintings, and the Glacier Garden with its glacier pots dating back millions of years.
