Steinhald – Sól ok Máni (The Sun and Moon Set Sail) | Old Norse Viking Music

In the old Norse stories, Sól and Máni are not simple lights in the sky. They were born from the clan of the jötnar. The gods took them and placed them above the world. Sól drives the sun’s chariot. Máni guides the moon. Two wolves hunt them without rest. Sköll chases Sól. Hati chases Máni. This hunt creates day and night, rise and fall, heat and cold.

This myth gives the piece its pulse. One part burns, one part cools. The music moves like two forces that never meet yet shape the world with every passing cycle.
