The small sleeve that slips over the key blade also must slide into the back piece of the key fob (it has grooves) before remaining assembly steps.
Both the sleeve and the back piece of key fob (solid with no button holes) have small grooves on each side so that they fit firmly together (see pic).
The sleeve will only slide into the back piece one way. The larger of the two screw holes in the sleeve will be facing upward.
If you can't get the sleeve to slide into the back piece with they key blade inside, try sliding the sleeve into the back piece with the key blade removed, then slide the key blade into the installed sleeve. You may need to use a screw driver blade to help move the key blade past the key ring area.
I think some of the people who are breaking the replacement fobs are trying to force the pieces together thinking that they fit together like a factory OEM fob - they don't.
Once assembled correctly it's a solid product! :)
