Chaturmas is reserved for penance, austerities, fasting, & religious observances for all. Devotees resolve to observe some form of vow, be it of silence or abstaining from a favorite food item, or having only a single meal in a day.
During the Chaturmas, the Jain monks practice Varshayog. It is believed that the monsoon season brings along with it a variety of insects and bugs that one can't see with naked eyes. Therefore, to avoid harming these living beings unknowingly, the monks stay in villages and perform austerities like fasting, Maun Vrat etc
One of the most important Jain festivals, Paryushana, falls during the beginning of this period, which concludes with Forgiveness Day, Kshamavani Diwas, wherein people and disciples say Micchami Dukkadam and ask forgiveness from each other.

Dishes:
1. Aate ka halwa
2. Matar Kachori
3. Amchur Chutney
4. Amchur Raita
5. Lobiya
6. Masala Paratha
7. Daal
8. Rice
Things to remember:
1. Wheat, Daal, Spices..etc. all of them should be washed and dried properly in Summer and store it which can be used in chaturmas
2. Wheat, Daal etc flour should be used within 2-3 days after grinding.
3. Filter all flours, water etc before use.
4. These should not be used - Green vegetables, root vegetables, leafy vegetables in chaturmas.
5. Use rock salt only.
6. Use pure ghee. Don't use refined oil.
7. In Spices don't use Rai, Turmeric, Saunth.
8. Prepare all recipes in enough quantities which can be consumed immediately after cooking.
