St John Evangelist Islington Celebrating 150 Years Part 1 of 3

The parish priest at the time of the 150 years celebration was Fr Geroge Haines and his brother also a priest with Cardinal Basil Hume

Fr George Haines was born in Islington baptished in St Johns church and ordained priest on
21 July 1951 and spent well over 25 years as parish priest at St Johns the evangelist the exact years i do not know. Retired and few years later died on 7th February 2000.

This video was rescued from a VHS copy found while tidying up whilst I was volunteering at the later years during a period when Fred Pledger was the sacristan between 2004 to 2011. "The havest is rich but the labourers are few" comes to mind.

Fr Howard James parish priest at the time permited the copy to DVD so that a piece of history could be shared instead of it being kept on dusty shelf. A copy of the DVD was given to the sister of Fr George Haines when the crypt was renamed ""Fr George Haines Centre" while parish priest. A ceremony was made of it but no video.

The VHS was transfered onto DVD and VHS copy returned. The intention was to upload the video for the 200 year celebration. Many distractions and forgetfulness left me very much doing the same as the VHS copy untill now. I piece of history shared eventually

Crystal Video are no longer in business I knew the then owner and would have had no problem uploading the video as for the people their relatives would very likely recognise them and as for the children who are now adults something for you and was churches suposed to stay the same spotting whats still there is easier.
