PREVIOUSLY:
After taking down all the military forces of the Repliforce, X reports back to Hunter Base before Double informs him that the rest of Repliforce have taken action and are planning to take off to space. X immediately makes his way to the Space Port to intercept them.

X sweeps through the enemy soldiers and finally reaches the Repliforce mothership's last line of defense in the form of Colonel. The Maverick Hunter tries talking some sense into the Colonel but falls into deaf ears as the proud Reploid insists that anyone who is against their mission is an enemy of theirs.

A heated battle ensues between the two highly regarded warriors, each fighting for their own cause. Colonel this time fights seriously and takes it up a notch, further increasing his speed and aggression in the bout. The two combatants keep one upping the other during the battle and after a series of exchanges, X emerges as the victor of the duel.

While Colonel has indeed lost the fight, he has performed his duty of serving as a distraction to X while the mothership launches to space to execute their plan.
