Re-Engineering the Chess Classics: Showalter-Janowski 1916 0-1 Queen's Gambit Accepted

This video is in the Re-Engineering the Chess Classics series! To celebrate the publication of my new book (written together with my childhood coach Steve Giddins) I am examining a series of classic games - just as we did in the book - using the creative engine analysis techniques I described in "The Silicon Road to Chess Improvement" At the same time, I get to indulge my current obsessions for a couple of classic players ;) starting with Dawid Markelowicz Janowski. Born in 1867, Janowski is most remembered nowadays for 2 catastrophic matches against the great Emanuel Lasker which have overshadowed the period in his career during which he was one most feared players in the world. This game features more opening creativity from Janowski as he ventures a piece sacrifice in the Queen's Gambit Accepted that I first saw in 1986 when the (then!) young Hungarian Tibor Karolyi tried it against the great Mikhail Tal! Showalter fails to find the best reply and his pieces are mercilessly steamrollered by Janowski's huge central pawn mass!
