Tonnes of waste are generated in Kenya every day, especially in densely populated urban areas. Most of the waste is organic, consisting of food and agricultural waste, while the rest is inorganic such as plastic waste. However, waste management remains a major problem in Kenya, leading to environmental pollution and health hazards. In view of this, a community-based organisation in Kisumu is now turning organic waste into meaningful products, at the same time helping to clean the busy Kibuye market.
