2 Hidden Waterfalls at Hawera's Waihi beach - GO Taranaki
I love walking along Waihi beach the huge cliffs are truly epic. Today we check out two hidden waterfalls at Waihi Beach. The first is semi viable from the gravel ramp and at the car park you can hear it - a viewing platform should be built at the car park so visitors can see this waterfall. (unfortunately the sun didn't cooperate with this footage of the first waterfall 1:07 )
The second water fall 2:48 at Hawera's Waihi Beach is definitely not visible from the beach and is on private land - Land owner's permission was granted for this footage.
How do you get to Waihi Beach? From South Road (State Highway 3) in Hawera you can turn west into Denby Road. The drive is 4 minutes or the walkway along Denby Road will take 38 minutes one way to cover the 3.2km to Waihi Beach.
The descent to Waihi Beach is a steep gravel track from the car park at the end of Denby Road. Its a well worth visiting Taranaki attraction.
Where is Hawera? Hawera is located in Taranaki New Zealand, it is South Taranaki's largest town. Hawera is 71 kilometers south of New Plymouth on State Highway 3 and 20 minutes drive from Mount Taranaki.
Hawera means “the burnt place” or “breath of fire. Approximately 12,000 people live in Hawera.
If you are looking for things to do in Taranaki, or are researching your next New Zealand holiday this beach should be on your list. I met some tourists from Western Australia while walking along the beach, they loved it.
