The forecast promised a wet day, but the weather changed at the last minute and Cairnsmore delivered something very different.
I went into this race nursing an Achilles injury, so this was never about speed. I took it very steady, listened to my body, and after a while it felt like I was out there completely on my own. Apart from the marshals at the checkpoints, it barely felt like a race at all.
Strong winds on the top made things properly wild and reminded me why hill racing demands respect, no matter the pace.
I didn’t make it back in time for the prize giving — protecting the Achilles mattered more than pushing it too far. Sometimes the smartest decision is knowing when to back off.
