We made this film because most people have never heard of George Liele. And that’s a problem.
Long before William Carey or Adoniram Judson, Liele—once enslaved—became the first missionary sent from America. He planted churches, preached freedom, and left a legacy that still shapes the global church today. But his story has been buried for too long.
This project gave us the honor of helping IMB and the North American African American Fellowship reclaim that story—through the eyes of Dr. Quintell Hill.
📍 We filmed on location in Kingston, Jamaica, inside East Queen Street Baptist Church—the very church Liele planted over 240 years ago.
🎙️ Dr. Hill puts it plainly:
“George Liele didn’t wait for permission—he was compelled by the Gospel.”
“This isn’t just history. It’s a mission invitation.”
Inside this short film, you’ll find:
→ A spiritual pilgrimage to the birthplace of Black missions
→ Powerful narration from Quintell Hill
→ Historic Jamaican church footage (2:17–3:41)
→ A challenge to today’s church to GO
This video helped our partners:
→ Recruit new missions leaders
→ Activate conversations in Black churches
→ Create momentum for future global engagement
We love this ministry. We believe in the legacy. And we’re honored to help tell this story.
