Pressure is mounting on US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth following fresh revelations of unauthorised sharing of sensitive military information. According to reports confirmed by multiple outlets, Hegseth used a private Signal chatroom—separate from one already known to involve senior Trump administration officials—to share operational details of a US strike on Houthi targets in Yemen. This second group reportedly included his wife, brother, and close associates. The New York Times report came just as John Ullyot, a former Pentagon spokesperson, publicly criticised Hegseth’s leadership in an opinion piece, calling the situation inside the Department of Defense a “full-blown meltdown”. Ullyot warned that the Pentagon’s focus had shifted from military readiness to internal drama and that this could ultimately cost Hegseth his job.
