Feeding the birds at the local park is ingrained in a lot of family traditions. In principle it’s a lovely way to connect children and families to nature, however little do we know that sometimes our good intentions cause harm to the animals that call that park home. I follow a family of swans to see life from their point of view and find ways that we can help, not hinder issues within their environment.
This entire reel was filmed at Te Wai Orea - Western Springs Park, Auckland, my local wildlife spot. Information taken from the New Zealand Herald states that it is considered a site of regional ecological significance, for both its flora and fauna. The lake's Māori name means "water of the long-finned eel", and the lake and surrounding waterways were a significant food-gathering site for local Māori.
Let’s all take a moment to think about positive ways we can impact our local wildlife and wild places so future generations can have an exciting and safe place to discover.
