We Had to Cut Down 100-Year-Old Trees – Here’s Why!!

Welcome back to Life at the Manor. In this episode, we head out into the farm deep into our 200 acres of woodland to confront a heartbreaking challenge—ash dieback its devastating the trees, and we’re having to take drastic action to protect and restore our woods.

Join us as we travel across the estate in Jeff (our trusty Polaris) to witness the real impact of Hymenoscyphus fraxineus, the fungal disease responsible for this ecological crisis. With thinning crowns, blackened shoots, and weakened trunks, our beloved ash trees are under threat—and some must be safely removed to preserve the woodland as a whole.

But this isn’t just a story of loss. With every felled tree comes a new opportunity. We’re managing the woodland thoughtfully—allowing light to reach the forest floor, encouraging natural regeneration, and supporting wildlife habitats through a balanced, layered ecosystem.

This is sustainable woodland management in action—from biodiversity conservation to long-term forest health.
