In June 2010, my son and I visited the Scottish Cemetery in Kolkata (Calcutta) to find the grave of Mary Ann Kelly Fimister,our great grandmother and great great grandmother respectively.
Sadly the cemetery is in poor condition, but there are plans to restore it. 1600 people, mainly Scots, are buried here and behind each grave is a great personal story.
This is the story of Mary Ann Kelly Fimister who left Dundee and her 6 children in the winter of 1908 to be with her husband, a jute salesman, in Calcutta. Less than a month after arriving in Bengal, the 38 year old woman was dead.
