Microsoft Windows 10 Voice/Speech Recognition/Dictation for Cortana

In Microsoft Windows 10 you have a few built-in options for dictation or speech recognition. The arrival of Windows 10 brought Cortana which allows you to give voice commands to your computer and also has dictation features built in, however, in this video we are going to focus on another tool that is built into Windows 10 that is specifically built for long form dictation.

In this video, we will show you how to find, set up and use the speech recognition tool. This tool does need to learn how you speak even after the setup process so don't get discouraged if you find a lot of errors at first. It may take a few days to fine-tune the process but once the speech recognition tool learns how you speak, it will compete with the best third-party programs.

Another word of caution is that you do need to learn a new set of command prompts to get the tool to work correctly. Thankfully Microsoft has a list of command prompts online that you can print out and reference. Most of them are intuitive and you will pick it up quickly. For example, if you have come to the end of a paragraph you will need to say "new paragraph" or if you come to the end of a sentence you will need to say "period", "excimation point" or "question mark".
