Basil Hayden's Bourbon Review || Will She Like It!?

Is Basil Hayden's a good Bourbon ? Let's find out if Rose, the Whiskey Noob, will like it!

Basil Hayden's bourbon is one of those bottles which really divides people. On the one hand, it's super easy to drink, coming in at 40% ABV, but on the other hand, it doesn't have the kind of weight or complexity that seasoned bourbon drinkers are looking for, especially at that price!

It's a non-age-statement straight bourbon, so it's at least 4 years old, with a mashbill of 63% corn, 27% rye and 10% malted barley. It's often looked at as an "intro" to top shelf bourbons, as it's well made, but coming in at 40%, it is soft enough to be an easy, everyday drinker.

Basil Hayden's Kentucky Straight Bourbon Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Quite light, but very sweet, a little bit of ripe red cherry, some vanilla, oak, caramel and peanut brittle

Palate:
The mouthfeel is quite light, with some white pepper, sugary sweetness, more oak and peanut oils

Finish:
The finish is short and light, with caramel and a touch of oak

Ultimately, we were split on this one. To me, it's a bit too light, a bit too soft, and lacking in the weight I look for in a bourbon. Rose on the other hand really liked the light, approachable nature, and she ranks it as the best bourbon I've had her try so far!
